NEWMONT URGES NORMANDY SHAREHOLDERS TO WAIT

DENVER, NOVEMBER 28, 2001 -- Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) said that it
is reviewing the revised offer that AngloGold Limited announced today in the
context of Newmont's offer for the shares of Normandy Mining that was announced
on November 14, 2001. Newmont will respond in due course.

Newmont advises Normandy shareholders that there is no need for them to take any
action at this time.
