Kickstarter project launches new film about organ donation with a positive message

“DONATE- The Movie” is a new-age don-com that aspires to encourage people to proactively participate in organ donation.

Organ donation is a sensitive subject but people often overlook the positive vibes hidden beneath it. But U.K.-based filmmaker Andrew Smith preferred to think otherwise. A transplant patient himself, Andrew has recently launched a new don-com on Kickstarter that brings to light the positivity of organ donation. Titled “DONATE- The Movie”, the film is aimed to raise awareness about the significance of organ donation and inspire viewers to proactively participate in organ donation.

“DONATE- The Movie” is a full-length feature film that revolves around the concept of organ donation. The story centres around a dad-son duo, Mickey and Raoul, who are out on a unique, insightful, and joyous journey to a new life. Mickey had a successful life-saving kidney transplant and he is out on a sponsored walk with a giant homemade kidney. As the movie unfolds, the walk becomes the “walk of life”, thereby unveiling many small but wonderful truths about life and the world around.

“Around 850,000,000 people across the world are suffering from some kind of kidney disease. Nearly 7,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant in the U.K. alone. Sometimes, it takes 3-5 years for a transplant patient to receive the needed organ for transplantation. The situation was worse especially during the COVID-19 period due to logistics issues. But, a great deal of the crisis could be solved if we can bring in more people to organ donation. And our family project- ‘DONATE-The Movie’, is aimed to inspire people about the urgent need for organ donation that could save millions of lives around the world”, stated Andrew.

“What makes this movie different and unique is that we have not dealt with the subject of organ donation with pathos. Organ donation is about giving new hope to someone- and it doesn’t have to be a heart-breaking topic. Rather, we can have some humour and positivity, and also a little bit of attitude to make the whole film a truly interesting watch.”

Speaking on, Andrew said it was his own journey as a transplant patient that had inspired him to create the new-age don-com.

“The kidneys, lungs, heart, intestines, and pancreas could be donated and transplanted into potential recipients. This implies, your body organs, even at the end of your life,  could bring a new lease of life to people who are on the verge of death. Statistics reveal that umpteen numbers of people are waiting for organ donation. While we have several kind souls who have helped many with organ donation, we want more people to join the team proactively. We believe our new-age don-com will shed light on the significance of organ donation and encourage our viewers to follow the same and spread the message around. We are looking forward to producing the film and hence this Kickstarter campaign. Your generous support would enable us to take the message to the world and make life better for our fellow brothers and sisters.”

Backers will be rewarded with exclusive Kickstarter discounts on digital copies of the film, listing as contributors, and more.
