Smiths Detection Wins Homeland Security Award from Government Security News

Smiths Detection yesterday received a Homeland Security Award from Government Security News (GSN) in Washington, D.C. The company’s HazMatID 360, an upgrade to its successful and leading HazMatID unknown substance identifier, was selected as the Best Chemical/Biological Detection Solution of 2010.

The award recognizes the outstanding people and companies who have introduced effective and cost-efficient security programs and innovative technologies that protect and defend the United States and its people. It is awarded by GSN, one of the leading news organizations focusing on government and homeland security.

With thousands of original HazMatID systems in use across the world already, the HazMatID 360 upgrade allows users to enhance the device’s capabilities without having to purchase a whole new system, maximizing the usefulness and cost-effectiveness of the identifier. Users can also leverage the technology they already have without needing extensive training to operate a new device.

Bob Bohn, Vice President Sales, Smiths Detection, said: “It is an honor to be recognized by GSN for our continuing commitment to making the world a safer place through technology. Our HazMatID 360 offers the best option for unknown chemical identification available to emergency response teams, security professionals and militaries around the world. It not only makes their jobs easier with more capabilities, but it is also a cost-effective way of keeping up with the most advanced technology.”

The HazMatID 360 is a portable, ruggedized device that provides comprehensive in-field analysis and identification of unknown solids, gels and liquids, and enables responders to quickly identify potential chemical threats to make decisive decisions in response.
