Smiths Detection Opens New Training & Service Center for the Americas

Smiths Detection has completed a new Training & Service Center for the Americas as part of an on-going investment in its U.S. headquarters in Edgewood, Maryland. This major facility will greatly improve product training and service capabilities for customers and boost the economy of both Edgewood and the state.

The 10,400 square foot Center is dedicated to educating and servicing customer from around North, Central and South America. Product training and service will focus on the full range of Smiths Detection’s CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiation, nuclear and explosives) and X-ray technologies. The new Center will also support sales demonstrations and bring prospective Smiths Detection customers to the area from across both continents. Construction involved several local suppliers and the Center is expected to attract between 1200-1500 customers to the area each year.

In August 2012, Smiths Detection designated Edgewood as the company’s U.S. headquarters. The site includes production and office space totaling 246,000 square feet. It includes administrative functions and manufacturing for the company’s X-ray, baggage screening, and security scanning systems for customers in the Americas. Ongoing capital investment totaling more than $9 million has supported local suppliers and economy.
