New Fire Station for the Town of Delavan Wisconsin

Scherrer Construction Company are pleased to inform the residents of Wheatland that the new Town of Delavan Fire Station will be complete within the next month.

The Wisconsin general contractor helped the town’s dream of a new fire station come to fruition.

The fire station, which has been under development since before 2018, has had a long road to getting rebuilt.

The previous station was built in 1973 and was in deteriorating condition. In 2018, the town put the possibility of rebuilding to a vote, which didn’t go through at first.

The original proposal called for a $3.8 million restructuring program, once the town voted that down, local Wisconsin construction company Scherrer Construction worked with The Town of Delavan Administrator John Olson to get the budget down to 2.5 million.

The construction management team at Scherrer had some ideas to keep costs within the budget. The town then voted a second time to pass the referendum, and the new fire station’s building was promised to be completed in 2021.

Fire Chief Jamie Jarosz for the Town of Delavan said he was grateful for the community support. “It was really nice to see,” he said.

When Scherrer Construction heard about the issues, it was the company who reached out to Olson with a proposed offer to give “construction management services,” where the company would help bid out to other local construction companies as well as having departments of Scherrer bid.

The town of Delavan had worked with Scherrer Construction in the past. They are a trusted company in the state of Wisconsin and agreed to go with Scherrer’s ideas.

Once the referendum passed, Olson reached out to Jim Scherrer of Scherrer construction company and offered him the opportunity to work with Town of Delavan on a planning and building program.

The town had had many successful projects, and on budget with Scherrer, so they were confident in the company’s ability to pull through for the fire station.

The most significant change in the fire station will be the size of it. The new fire station will allow the firefighters to keep all of their equipment in one place as opposed to sending their people to two locations (as was the case in the past).

The new fire station was built on the same spot as the original building, which saved on real estate and building costs. Scherrer construction only has the flooring and interior walls to complete, and the structure will be ready and sound for firefighters to work and live (part-time) very soon.
