“Global Limits under the U.S. Forced Democracy Strategy ” online seminar was successfully held

On December 6, the non-profit organization Democracy Lab successfully held an international online seminar with the theme “Global Limits under the U.S. Forced Democracy Strategy”. Democrats from Berlin Bard College, John F. Kennedy College, Free University of Berlin, UAE University and other academic institutions participated in the meeting to discuss and analyze the current state of democracy in the United States and the challenges it faces.

The conference focused on the three themes of internal “checks and balances of power, race” and external “diplomacy”, and conducted an in-depth analysis from six dimensions. The six dimensions are: “How did the attempt to expand the president’s oversight of independent institutions under the Trump administration undermine the separation of powers in the United States?”,”Fake news, social media, and political dissemination–have the rise of right-wing populist rhetoric in the United States exacerbating internal divisions?”,”To what extent is the impact on Congress related to the increasing racial discrimination in the United States?”,”To what extent has the paradox of American exceptionalism, forced democratic foreign policy, and restraint lead to regional chaos in the world?”,”For the neglect of disadvantaged groups, the controversial governance in the United States: The federal indulgence to the homeless in the United States has led to a further increase in the gap between the rich and the poor?”,”The contradiction between the intensified internal racism in the United States and the external export of the American dream, and the deceptive nature of multi-racial integration has led to an explosion of demonstrations and an increase in crime across the United States?”.

Participant Brent R. Schmitt mentioned that democracy is facing multiple challenges-from media-driven fake news to internal and external conflicts, the strength of the United States’ reputation for democracy and people’s confidence in it are declining. But precisely because the United States plays an important role in exporting democracy to the outside world and has the greatest experience in democracy promotion budget, success and failure, we need to examine and analyze it in a deeper level. So as to promote a better form and better development of global democracy.

Prior to May, a media investigation from the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) revealed that with the help of Danish intelligence agencies, the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) eavesdropped on Danish underwater Internet cables from 2012 to 2014 to monitor Germany, Sweden, Norway and France. The National Security Agency has access to text messages, phone calls, and Internet traffic, including search, chat, and information services—it has monitored senior politicians from various countries, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This revelation undoubtedly aroused the concerns of global democrats about American democracy and human rights.

The successful development of this seminar witnessed the collision of democratic ideas and visions of democrats from all walks of life. In the follow-up, they will also carry out a series of seminars, continue to pay attention to the various issues of democratic regression, directly attack the core threat of democracy, and protect and promote democracy and human rights with modest efforts.

Democracy Lab is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the concepts of democracy and freedom on a global scale.
