ASUR Provides Second Update on Impact from Hurricane Wilma
Mexico City, October 27, 2005, Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, S.A. de C.V. (NYSE: ASR; BMV: ASUR) (ASUR), the first privatized airport group in Mexico and operator of Cancun Airport and eight others in the southeast of Mexico, today released a preliminary report on the effects of Hurricane Wilma, which struck the Yucatan Peninsula on October 20, 2005.
Three days after Hurricane Wilma left the region, ASUR can report the following with respect to its airports in the region:
| Cozumel: |
- The Terminal building sustained damage to its ceilings, air conditioning system, windows, and electrical wiring
- Communications at the airport have been partially reestablished
- The control tower, VOR systems, and air navigation systems are still out of service and the airport is operating in visual mode
- Power has not yet been reestablished at the airport and the company’s operations in the region are relying on emergency generators
- The airport yesterday performed five flights involving approximately 750 passengers
- The company is currently preparing a damage report for its insurance company
| Cancun: |
- On 26 October, 37 flights involving approximately 7,000 passengers were performed
- Data communications have been reestablished and operating systems are coming back on line
- Limited commercial operations at Terminal 2 are scheduled to begin today,October 27.
As of the date of this release, ASUR cannot estimate when operations at the Cancun and Cozumel airports will return to normal.
In addition, approximately 10,000 people stranded in the region were evacuated through ASUR’s airport at Merida.
At this time ASUR cannot estimate the impact that these events will have on the Company’s financial results for the month of October, the fourth quarter of 2005, or fiscal year 2006.
