On April 1, 2009, AVANIR Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (the “Company”) issued a press release
providing an update on the STAR trial and announcing that the Company has completed additional
pre-clinical and clinical studies to enhance its complete response to the FDA approvable letter for
the new lower dose Zenvia formulation. The press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and
