LCC Asia Pacific® releases executive briefing on additive manufacturing in contested environments — and what it means for Australia, AUKUS and Indo-Pacific security

SYDNEY - Sept. 4, 2026 - PRLog -- LCC Asia Pacific®, the Sydney-headquartered corporate finance and strategy advisory firm, today released RIMPAC 2026: Additive Manufacturing in the Contested Zone, an executive briefing examining how forward-deployed manufacturing is reshaping military logistics, combat generation and the mission life of defence assets across the Indo-Pacific.

The briefing draws on the 2026 Rim of the Pacific exercise, where a distributed advanced-manufacturing network of more than 50 nodes operated across warships, forward bases and autonomous logistics links. Aboard USS Essex, more than 1,000 parts and 12 complete FPV drones were manufactured at sea and subsequently flown in counter-UAS experimentation. Metal components were produced in conditions up to Sea State 5, and digitally crewed surface vessels delivered manufactured parts to joint forces in under 24 hours.

The paper argues that this convergence of additive manufacturing, autonomous systems and digital inventory arrives at a decisive moment for Australia, as the nation extends the Collins-class fleet, builds AUKUS submarine sustainment capability and prepares for increasingly contested regional logistics.

"For Australia, the opportunity is not simply to buy more printers," Nicholas Assef said. "It is to build an interoperable AUKUS manufacturing environment — qualified materials, secure technical data and multiple sovereign production nodes — so that a low-cost bracket or valve body never again determines whether a ship or submarine can sail.
