The resort, located a short drive from Diani Beach, has replaced most of its previous staff and hired a new management team to oversee daily operations. The change comes after a period of guest complaints about service and property upkeep that had affected the resort’s standing among travelers looking for a resort in Kenya’s south coast region.
As part of the transition, YU Resort completed renovation work across guest rooms, common areas, and the building exterior, including repainting and general repairs. The work addressed maintenance issues that had been raised by guests in previous reviews. Management said the renovation was carried out room by room over several months, with attention paid to furnishings, plumbing, and general upkeep in addition to cosmetic work.
The new management team has also restructured how the property is run day to day. Staff across the front desk, housekeeping, food and beverage service, and grounds maintenance were replaced or retrained under updated service standards. The resort said the changes were made in direct response to patterns identified in past guest feedback, rather than as a general refresh.
“We reviewed the feedback from past guests and made changes based on it,” said Dr. Andreas Held, founder of YU Resort. “The staff, the management structure, and the physical condition of the property have all changed since last year. We wanted guests who visit now to have a different experience than the one some had before.”
Held said the resort’s location was part of the reason for investing in the turnaround rather than starting over elsewhere.
