New national resource gives parents structured driving lessons, state-specific guidance and practical tools for teaching teens behind the wheel.

NEWARK, DE / ACCESS Newswire / August 19, 2026 / Zutobi, a leading digital driver education platform used by over 15 million learners, today announced the launch of its new Parent Driving Hub, a comprehensive online resource designed to help parents guide their teenagers from permit preparation through supervised practice and road-test readiness.

Available at zutobi.com/us/parents, the new section addresses one of the most overlooked parts of driver education: preparing parents to teach. Parents are responsible for supervising 40 to 50 required hours of behind-the-wheel practice in most states, but many receive little guidance on which skills to teach, when to introduce more difficult driving conditions, or how to determine whether their teen is truly ready to drive independently.

That gap shows up in Zutobi's own research. In a Zutobi-commissioned survey of 1,000 U.S. adults, 54% of parents who have taught a teen to drive said the experience was more stressful than they expected.

The Zutobi Parent Driving Hub replaces that uncertainty with a structured, step-by-step approach.

"Parents play a central role in shaping the habits, awareness, and decision-making skills their teenagers develop behind the wheel," said Leo Waldenback, co-founder of Zutobi. "Yet most parents are handed a required number of practice hours without a clear plan for how to use them. We created this resource to help families turn those hours into a meaningful driving experience that builds real capability, not simply eligibility for a license."

A Structured Path From Permit to Independent Driving

The new Parent Driving Hub organizes the learning-to-drive process into five progressive phases:

  1. Permit preparation

  2. First driving lessons

  3. Skill development

  4. Real-world driving

  5. Road-test readiness

The hub also provides guidance on defensive driving, hazard perception, highway and night driving, parking, distracted-driving prevention, speed management and emergency preparation. Rather than measuring readiness only by hours completed, Zutobi encourages parents to evaluate whether their teen consistently shows safe judgment, vehicle control and awareness across a range of driving environments.

State-Specific Guidance for Parents

Because supervised-driving requirements vary across the United States, the Parent Driving Hub includes dedicated guides for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Parents can select their state to review:

  • Required supervised-driving hours

  • Nighttime driving requirements

  • Permit and licensing rules

  • Supervisor eligibility requirements

  • Professional driving-school requirements

  • State-specific steps toward licensure

This gives families a central starting point for understanding both the legal requirements and the practical skills their teen needs to develop.

Tools Designed for Real Driving Practice

The Parent Driving Hub connects families with Zutobi's broader Parent Driving System, which includes structured lesson plans, practice logs, driving-session checklists, progress tracking and video-led instruction from a certified driving instructor.

The Parent-Teen Training Guide includes 35 progressive lessons, from vehicle setup and basic control through residential driving, intersections, highways, night conditions and test preparation. Lessons are sequenced to help teens build awareness and control before being introduced to more demanding environments.

Research highlighted by Zutobi shows that structured parent involvement can have a meaningful effect on teen-driving safety. A Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and State Farm study found that teenagers with actively involved parents were 50% less likely to crash, 71% less likely to drive intoxicated and 30% less likely to drive distracted. A 2025 Virginia Tech Transportation Institute study found that those who practiced in varied conditions had 30% fewer crashes or near-crashes when driving independently.

"Completing the required hours is important, but hours alone do not create a safe driver," said Waldenback. "The quality, variety and progression of that practice matter. Our goal is to give parents the structure and confidence to teach skills that will remain with their teenagers long after the driving test."

Expanding Zutobi's Driver Education Mission

The Parent Driving Hub represents an expansion of Zutobi's mission to support new drivers throughout the complete licensing journey. Since launching its digital driver education course in 2018, Zutobi has helped learners study traffic laws, understand road signs, prepare for written knowledge tests and build driving-safety knowledge through video, illustrations, simulations and gamified learning. The new parent section extends that support from permit preparation into real-world, behind-the-wheel skill development.
