Annual event celebrates breakthroughs at Northwell Health’s Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research fueled by donor support

The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, the home of research at Northwell Health, raised $3.5 million at its 21st annual Feinstein Summer Concert to support groundbreaking scientific discoveries and innovation, bringing the event’s total fundraising to nearly $50 million since its inception. Held on July 23 at Old Westbury Gardens, the evening welcomed supporters of the Feinstein Institutes and featured a performance by multiplatinum indie pop band, AJR.

The annual fundraiser highlighted the powerful role philanthropy plays in accelerating breakthroughs from the laboratory to patients. The Feinstein Institutes is the scientific leader in bioelectronic medicine, and the past year was a tipping point in development as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a device, the science of which was pioneered at the Feinstein Institutes. Northwell also created a clinical Center for Bioelectronic Medicine and was the first health system in the nation to implant the device in a patient living with rheumatoid arthritis, demonstrating how decades of scientific research can lead to life-changing treatments.

Since its founding, the Feinstein Summer Concert has become one of Long Island’s premier fundraising events, helping fuel discoveries across the Feinstein Institutes’ six research institutes – behavioral science, bioelectronic medicine, cancer research, health system science, molecular medicine and translational research – that improve the lives of patients around the world.

Guests also heard from Stavros Zanos, MD, PhD, professor within the Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine at the Feinstein Institutes, who shared how his team is unlocking new insights into bioelectronic medicine through pioneering work to map the vagus nerve. His work seeks to better understand how targeted nerve stimulation could lead to more precise therapies for inflammatory and chronic conditions.

The evening was emceed for the 10th year by Chris Wragge, news anchor for CBS News New York. Catering and event design were led by Larry Scott of Lawrence Scott Events.
