The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) found its National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) matched only 28% of provider names, addresses and specialties against health plan directories. That gap has spawned a cottage industry charging for information that should be free, a textbook example of the administrative waste stakeholders constantly decry.
