May Corporation Successfully Mass Produces 4K LCOS Panels in Korea, Delivering Brighter and Clearer Images at a Competitive Price
LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) is a display technology that utilizes precision-designed wafers with liquid crystals to create high-resolution images. It combines the advantages of semiconductors and LCDs, making it ideal for immersive hardware devices, including metaverse applications.
May’s 4K LCOS Panel
May has successfully become the first company in the world to mass-produce 4K x 2K resolution microdisplay LCOS panels (under 2 inches in size). By localizing manufacturing equipment and key raw materials, the company has developed essential production processes and secured patents. May has also established a fully automated manufacturing process, achieving a yield rate of over 90%. The company currently has the capacity to produce 500,000 high-resolution microdisplays annually and plans to expand production facilities to manufacture 5 million units per year in the future.
May offers a lineup of two FHD (1080P) models and two UHD (4K x 2K) models. Among them, the "IRIS-U62" boasts a 3.6 μm pixel size, the smallest among existing microdisplay panels. A smaller pixel size increases the PPI (Pixels Per Inch), resulting in sharper image quality.
LCOS panels can be applied to various devices, including VR/AR HMDs (Head-Mounted Displays), projectors, AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) systems, LiDAR for autonomous vehicles, and HUDs (Head-Up Displays).
The "IRIS-U62" HMD model features a detachable front cover, allowing it to be used as both an AR and VR device. It has been applied to roller coaster simulators for a more immersive experience and was showcased at CES 2022, receiving significant customer interest.

AOI supply contracts have been signed with companies in South Korea and China.
LiDAR and HUD panels are currently being supplied as prototypes or negotiated as component supplies with leading global companies in the U.S., China, Germany, Japan, and South Korea.
World’s First Mass-Produced 4K2K LCOS-Based SLM (Spatial Light Modulator)
May has successfully developed and mass-produced 4K2K LCOS-based SLM (Spatial Light Modulator), recognized as the next-generation spatial display technology. This world-first panel operates at 360Hz, enabling the implementation of full-color 3D holographic images using a single LCOS panel.
