The Globe and Mail reports that, in just the first three months of 2022, the federal government approved 44,200 positions through the TFW program – 73 percent higher than the quarterly average from 2017 to 2021. In light of this, CanAm introduced a new service to help immigrants reduce the overall cost of living. As such, it offers 2.25% lower currency exchange rates than banks and guarantees to beat any offer.
The company explains that due to its large transactional volume and purchasing power it can buy in bulk, thus passing the savings on to clients. Additionally, unlike banks, it does not charge additional fees to cover operational costs.
As part of the new service, the company offers both over-the-phone and online booking. Once a trade is booked, the rate is locked and the client’s funds are converted at the agreed-upon rate. For all trades, CanAm provides a written confirmation on the locked rate before any funds are transferred. All transactions are processed within one business day with no wire transfer charges. Clients will also receive a confirmation number, which they can use to trace their transactions at any Canadian bank.
“We recommend opening up a foreign currency account at your current bank,” explained a spokesperson. “As soon as you need the funds converted, call us to book a trade, and we will send the converted funds to your foreign currency bank account within one business day,” they added.
Currently, payments are accepted in debit, cash, wire and electronic funds transfer, eTransfer, and Canadian bank draft.
