Mayor of Bay Head, NJ, honors the author who wrote the perennial bestseller Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health while living in the seaside city.

Over 100 guests from the tri-state area of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania gathered at the historic landmark of L. Ron Hubbard Residence in Bay Head, New Jersey, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Hubbard’s arrival in Bay Head in September 1949.
In recognition of this significant moment, Mayor William W. Curtis of Bay Head, NJ, awarded the posthumous honorary citizenship of Bay Head to L. Ron Hubbard, the world-renowned author, humanitarian and founder of Scientology.
Mayor Curtis also highlighted the lasting contributions of L. Ron Hubbard, who among many other achievements, promoted peace and harmony among all people around the world. Mayor Curtis especially recognized the contributions of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers during and after Superstorm Sandy, whose efforts helped the borough recover rapidly from that devastating natural disaster that hit the Jersey Shore, as well as their continued support since that time.
"We are so lucky to be here at such a memorable anniversary: 75 years since L. Ron Hubbard set foot in Bay Head. Who knew that this would be such a revolutionary moment, and we would still be talking about it all these years later?", Mayor Curtis said.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of a special recognition from the 10th Legislative District of New Jersey,which includes Senator James W. Holzapfel and Assemblymen Gregory P. McGuckin and Paul Kanitra. The District's representative, Mr. Todd Lund, Jr., representing Assemblyman Kanitra, delivered remarks commended Hubbard's contributions to society, particularly his work in drug prevention and criminal rehabilitation.
"I enjoyed the tour I received of this landmark today. I see that L. Ron Hubbard was a man who studied many disciplines and found innovative ways to solve problems," said Lund Jr. "I especially commend the work done here in Bay Head, as well as the ongoing impact of programs like Drug-Free World and Criminon."
Among the prestigious guests, Ambassador Dr. Monica Sanchez, Cultural Ambassador of the Miss Caricom Foundation, spoke about the deep personal impact Hubbard's teachings had on her. She said, "It's so awesome to be here today in celebration of this great man, a man ahead of his time. The tour guide did an excellent job of bringing L. Ron Hubbard to life while walking through this landmark. Hubbard’s legacy is a contribution to making a better world."
L.Ron Hubbard was a prolific author and founder of the Scientology religion. One of his best-known works, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, was penned during his time in Bay Head, New Jersey, and became a New York Times bestseller.
