The event offers a half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and a virtual run at Life Fellowship Church in Cornelius, North Carolina. According to the organizers, it is the only half marathon within 150 miles of Charlotte on Thanksgiving Day.

The race provides a family-friendly, Thanksgiving Day fitness opportunity for participants of all ages. As Thanksgiving Day races have become popular traditions, the Turkey Trot allows families to begin celebrations actively while supporting the Human Health Project charity, which issues grants and donates non-perishable food items to local shelters. Participants can also make digital currency donations using Bitcoin, Solana, or Ethereum by contacting the organization.
All races start between 7:30 AM and 7:40 AM, with the half-marathon first. The half-marathon course features two loops and awaits official certification to ensure accurate distance measurement for the 13.1-mile challenge. Runners must finish by 11:15 AM, allowing roughly 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete the course, which takes place entirely on asphalt roads.

Packet pickup begins Monday, November 24, 2025, at Charlotte Running Company in Mooresville, with additional pickup on November 26 at Life Fellowship Church and race day pickup starting at 6:30 AM. The Turkey Trot is race number 3 in the 2025 Vibe-X Lake Norman Half Marathon Series, and early registration prices increase periodically. Volunteers receive free entries, and the 5K course accommodates strollers and children under four at no additional cost.
