More than 700 companies placed bids within two days, turning a one field website into a viral live market for search visibility

-- Outbid.lol, a leaderboard where rank is set entirely by what a company pays, drew more than one million visitors and $120,000 in bids within 48 hours of its August 19, 2026 launch. It applies the logic of keyword auctions to a single public page, and one developer built it alone.

The product is one page with one input field. No AI, no login, no algorithm deciding who surfaces. A company submits a link, bids, and takes whatever position that amount buys, starting at $5 on the pay-to-rank leaderboard. From there it fed itself. Attention drew bidders, bidding pushed the price up, and the climbing price became part of the spectacle. Each turn made the top position worth more, and within two days holding it cost $13,005, five dollars above second place.

"The board does one thing, and that turned out to be the point," said Jonathan Wilke, founder of outbid.lol. "There is no algorithm to game and nothing to optimize. It all rests on how badly a company wants to be first."

By the second day, 705 companies had taken positions under the site's published bidding rules, and leading listings had sent thousands of click-throughs to the sites behind them. Traffic broke the original analytics provider, forcing an overnight switch. More than ten imitators appeared within 24 hours, two of which now bid for placement on the original board. A $100,000 offer to acquire the site was declined, below what the board generated in that same window.

The result is an unusually blunt instrument for startup visibility and traffic acquisition, sitting alongside the search ads and directory listings companies already pay for. Whether an open market for attention holds its price once the novelty passes remains untested. For now the only signal on the page is the number beside each name.
