Beyond Low Prices: How HY International Trade Wins Over European Premium Buyers

-- When European consumers purchase an item costing over €50, they don't consider "cheapness" as the primary factor. Instead, they consider three questions: Have I seen this before? What makes it good? How is it better than others?

This decision-making model is related to the structure of the European e-commerce market. Europeans spend an average of over €2,200 annually on e-commerce, and e-commerce penetration continues to rise. However, consumers have equally stringent requirements for quality and value. A low-price strategy is unlikely to build long-term brand equity in Europe—consumers may be attracted by a low price initially, but if they don't perceive value a second time, they won't return.

A survey shows that 56% of European consumers explicitly stated that high-priced goods must demonstrate their reasonable price through clear functions or performance, and their value must be immediately perceptible. In other words, simply stating "high quality" on the product page is insufficient; consumers need to see, feel, and confirm it.

For cross-border e-commerce platforms, this means several layers of work: product detail pages need to answer frequently asked questions by European consumers—size, material, applicable scenarios, and differences from competitors; social media content needs to showcase real-world usage scenarios rather than empty product images; and the logistics experience needs to match local European standards, not just be a compromise for "cross-border" needs.

HY International Trade's European warehouses can play a role in all three aspects. Local warehouses facilitate returns and exchanges, reducing consumer decision-making risk; and social media content, combined with real-world usage scenarios from local influencers, can more intuitively answer "what makes it good." Value for money isn't conveyed by price numbers, but by the total value perceived by consumers at every touchpoint.
