JST Power Equipment recently announced that it will open a new padmount transformer factory in Wytheville, Virginia on March 13, 2025. This latest expansion comes on the heels of strong fiscal year in 2024 and is one of several new investments that JST Power has made since expanding its dry type transformer manufacturing plant in Nogales, Mexico in 2024. The Wytheville factory will support US customers and the advancement of engineering, services, and production in North America.
JST Power plans to produce small batch manufacturing of three-phase padmount transformers. The location will also serve as a customer experience center, service center and R&D for other JST transformer product lines.
Wytheville, Virginia factory is fundamental to manufacturing transformers in the US due to location, supply chain, and robust industry knowledge.
Mayor Beth Taylor, Town of Wytheville, declares, “On behalf of Wytheville Town Council, I am delighted to welcome JST Power Equipment as it establishes a manufacturing facility here in Fairview Industrial Park in the Town of Wytheville. This growth is a testament to the hard-working people who make this area their home.”
The opening of the new factory coupled with a revamped online presence, signal strong business growth for the power equipment and technologies manufacturer.
“We’re very pleased to announce the opening of a new location in Wytheville, Virginia,” says Matthew Polk, Executive Vice President and General Manager. “This is not only an opportunity to bring more jobs to the area, but it also allows us to further expand our padmount transformer manufacturing capabilities and meet the growing needs of the US market. Our new factory marks a major milestone for JST Power. The facility positions us for continued growth and enables us to deliver even better products to our customers."
The new facility plans to initially hire 25-30 manufacturing employees and 10-20 office professionals. Spanning 45,000 square feet, the site features an advanced manufacturing assembly area and offers convenient access from major highways in all directions—north, south, east, and west.
Chairman Brian Vaught, Wythe County Board of Supervisors, remarks, “Wythe County welcomes JST Power Equipment to our strong manufacturing community. We celebrate this announcement and hope to support their continued growth here in Southwest Virginia.”
The demand for our products is unprecedented, driven by sectors such as renewable energy, large commercial/industrial projects, data centers, and utilities. As Trey Smith, Director of Marketing for Transformers, notes, “The most effective way to meet the current increasing electrical power demands is through strategic brownfield projects like this one. JST Power can stay ahead of the curve in the transformer industry by delivering exceptional products, seamless business operations, and added value for both existing and future partners.
