Safe + Sound Week and the Importance of Protecting the Health and Safety of All Workers

By: WebWire

This week marks the start of the sixth annual Safe + Sound Week. This year's week of recognition takes place from August 15th through the 21st and is endorsed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), numerous safety organizations, and thousands of businesses.

Each agency, organization, and business that is a part of this coalition supports the concept that every workplace should have a safety and health program that includes management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards. It is also an opportunity for OSHA, NIOSH, and partners to share information and ideas on ways to keep workers safe. This is important as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that thousands of workers are killed on the job each year, and more than 3.6 million suffer a serious job-related injury or illness.

Safety and health programs help to:

  • Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses
  • Improve compliance with laws and regulations
  • Reduce costs, including significant reductions in workers' compensation premiums
  • Engage workers
  • Enhance social responsibility goals
  • Increase productivity and enhance overall business operations

“Year-round safety and health programs not only protect workers, they can also save companies and institutions a significant amount of money,” said Frank Selamie, President of CTSI. “At CTSI we support the efforts of Safe + Sound Week. Our safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental professionals provide solutions to improve work conditions by mitigating risks in accordance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations. Regulatory compliance assessments, management and worker training, testing and monitoring, and many other services that CTSI offers all help to create healthy work environments and stronger businesses.”
