ROUND ROCK, TX, July 29, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Angel E. Caldera, MD, has been recognized as a 2022 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the 11th consecutive year he has received the Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.

Dr. Caldera is an interventional cardiologist whose areas of clinical, educational, and research focus include valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, and vascular medicine.

He evaluates and treats conditions that include aortic stenosis, or narrowing of the aortic valve — seeing patients with cardiac conditions that affect either the arteries that feed the heart or the valves essential to its proper functioning.

Dr. Caldera has special expertise and more than 10 years of experience treating aortic stenosis with a minimally invasive procedure called transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

He also performs complex coronary and peripheral vascular interventions, including carotid-artery angioplasty with stenting.

Dr. Caldera cares for adult patients at Baylor Scott & White Health, Round Rock Medical Center's state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory, where he serves as both a physician and the director of the Interventional Cardiology Training Program.

A member of the Heart and Vascular Care team since 2009, he is proud to have developed both professional and personal relationships with many of his patients.

"The most satisfying aspect of treating cardiovascular disease is seeing our patients be able to go back to enjoying life to the fullest degree," he says.

Dr. Caldera is a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and he is board certified in both cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.

Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.

Dr. Caldera earned his medical degree from Universidad Central De Venezuela. He completed an internal medicine residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA; a three-year cardiovascular disease residency at Baylor College of Medicine-affiliated hospitals in Houston, TX; and two fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA— one in interventional cardiology, the other in vascular medicine.

He speaks English and Spanish.
