DESCRIPTION:

As a high school student, Jakob Morrow knew he wanted to make a positive impact on the world. He just didn’t know how.  But when a hospitalization and subsequent Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis led to a Medtronic insulin pump, he says he found his calling to work in the medical device industry. The biomedical engineering student at University of Texas at Dallas made it his goal to land an internship at the company that he says helped change his life for the better.

This year, Morrow joined nearly 400 college students as part of the Medtronic Summer Internship Program designed to give realistic previews of full-time careers at the company, including roles in R&D, quality, operations, supply chain, finance, and marketing. Each intern takes on a meaningful project and gets access to career development, volunteering and networking opportunities.

Colorado State University student Joyce Bohn also shares a passion for the Medtronic Mission to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life. As a Medtronic patient herself, she hopes to keep giving back to the company that she says has dramatically improved her quality of life.

The Summer Internship Program is a critical pipeline for top, diverse, early-career talent. Last year, 77% of eligible interns became full-time employees. Bohn says it would be a dream-come-true if she could be among those who earn a full-time employment offer right out of college.  “I think Medtronic is going to be the company for me,” said Bohn.
