RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2 candidate David VanGorden says homelessness remains one of the most frequently discussed topics during conversations with residents throughout the city.
VanGorden, who is running against incumbent Kristine Scott and candidate DeJonae Shaw for the District 2 seat on the Rancho Cucamonga City Council, says many residents are concerned not only about homelessness within Rancho Cucamonga but also about how regional policies adopted by neighboring cities may affect local communities.
"Residents are asking important questions," stated David VanGorden. "They want to know whether decisions being made elsewhere in Southern California could eventually impact Rancho Cucamonga. They want to know if our city is prepared and whether we have a plan in place."
Southern California cities continue to face significant challenges related to homelessness, public safety, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and affordable housing. As municipalities throughout the region search for solutions, VanGorden says Rancho Cucamonga must remain informed about broader trends that could influence local conditions.
"Homelessness is not confined by city boundaries," VanGorden said. "What happens in one community can affect neighboring communities. Residents want reassurance that Rancho Cucamonga is monitoring regional developments and preparing accordingly."
According to VanGorden, residents have expressed concerns about whether transportation systems, social service programs, economic pressures, and population movement throughout Southern California could contribute to future increases in homelessness within the Inland Empire.
"These are reasonable questions," VanGorden continued. "Our responsibility as local leaders is not to ignore potential challenges but to plan ahead. Waiting until a problem becomes larger is rarely the best solution."
VanGorden emphasized that addressing homelessness requires cooperation among local governments, county agencies, law enforcement, nonprofit organizations, and community groups.
"Compassion and accountability must work together," VanGorden said. "We must support those who genuinely need help while protecting the quality of life, safety, and economic vitality that Rancho Cucamonga residents value."
VanGorden believes residents deserve transparent discussions about the issue and encourages community involvement as city leaders consider future policies.
"The conversations I am having with residents make one thing clear," VanGorden concluded. "People are paying attention. They want practical solutions, regional cooperation, and leadership willing to address difficult issues before they become larger challenges."
David VanGorden is a 30-year law enforcement professional and candidate for Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2. His campaign focuses on transparency, public safety, infrastructure, controlled growth, and preserving Rancho Cucamonga's quality of life.
