SAN FRANCISCO - Aug. 29, 2026 - Spark Ring today announced that its AI-powered smart ring will launch for crowdfunding on Kickstarter in September 2026, with first shipments scheduled for November 2026. The device is designed with one guiding principle: the fastest way to capture a thought should not require a screen.
The ring is worn on the finger and activated by a double-tap. It captures speech in under 100 milliseconds, sends it to a paired phone for transcription, and then sorts what was said into the place it belongs: a reminder, a note, or a drafted message. The company describes the product as an input layer positioned ahead of the phone.
The problem the category is trying to solve
Voice capture hardware has found its first solid market in meetings. Card-style and clip-style recorders have strong adoption with professionals who need a transcript of a scheduled conversation, and that use case is now well served.
What remains unsolved are the moments outside formal meetings. Ideas arrive while walking to a car, while holding a child, while pushing a bag through an airport, and within ninety seconds after a conversation ends. In those moments, the phone is a poor instrument. By the company's own measure, lifting it, unlocking it, finding the right application and waiting for a keyboard takes around twelve seconds, and each step increases the chance the thought will be lost.
Spark Ring's argument is that form factor determines coverage. A device that has to be retrieved gets used during planned work. A device already on the hand gets used the rest of the day.
How the device works
The ring weighs 2.8 grams and measures under 8 millimeters wide and under 2.5 millimeters thick, crafted from zirconia ceramic and available in sizes 9 to 13. There is no screen. A double-tap begins capture; an LED and a haptic pulse confirm it. A noise-reducing digital microphone captures voice within a range of 3 to 5 meters, and the ring is rated IP68.
Transcription runs on the paired phone, and the company states that captured audio never leaves the device. Spark Ring describes the approach as Privacy by Design, and says the product has been built to align with GDPR, the EU AI Act, and CCPA/CPRA. Transcription covers more than 100 languages, and the company says speaker identification distinguishes between speakers.
Once transcription is complete, the system determines intent. A sentence that describes an obligation becomes a task with a due date. A sentence that describes an idea becomes a note. A sentence addressed to a person becomes a draft message awaiting review. The company positions this routing step as the substance of the product: the ring delivers a task in a task list and a note in a notebook, automatically organized.
Spark Ring offers up to eight hours of continuous recording, a standby time of up to one week, and a full charge in 30 minutes. The ring connects over BLE 5.0 and NFC to iOS and Android, and syncs automatically when it reconnects. Haptic feedback delivers time-based reminders directly to the finger, so a due item can surface without the user looking at a display.
There is one control and one gesture. The double-tap serves as the entire interface: no wake phrase to say out loud, no application to open first, and nothing on the ring to read. Spark Ring's position is that a capture device earns its place by how well it works in the situations where a phone is already occupied, which is why the company treats the school run, airport queues, and the walk back from a meeting as the product's core territory alongside the desk.
Who it is being built for
Spark Ring is designed for three key groups of users. The first is people managing many parallel threads (founders, product managers, consultants, independent creators) for whom a lost idea often results in costly rework. The second is people for whom the friction of conventional input becomes the barrier, including those managing ADHD, where a multi-step capture flow often means the thought is never recorded at all. The third is use cases outside of work entirely: parents, travelers, and people who exercise, a segment underserved by existing meeting-focused hardware.
