The Norwegian human rights organization Rettssikkerhet for alle! is praising the new film Fjord that recently won the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival.

Fjord stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as a Romanian-Norwegian conservative couple facing scrutiny by child protection services in Norway, Barnevernet, after moving to the wife's progressive remote Norwegian hometown.

The film had its premiere at the main competition of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in May, where it won the Palme d'Or, the François Chalais Prize, the FIPRESCI Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. It has received critical acclaim, and now the new film is recommended by a human rights organization.

"Fjord is important because it highlights the ongoing debate between state intervention and the fundamental right to family life", says Linn Rine, spokesperson for Rettssikkerhet for alle! "The film Fjord about the Norwegian child welfare services, called Barnevernet, also serves as a significant focal point for human rights defenders in Norway."

The spokesperson for the human rights organization Rettssikkerhet for alle! is urging human rights defenders around the world to rally against child protection overreach in Norway.

"Movies like Fjord is a rallying cry for legal reform, urging an international dialogue on how to balance child safety with the protection of parental rights and human dignity", says Linn Rine, spokesperson for Rettssikkerhet for alle! "Movies like Fjord is raising global awareness of Barnevernet."

For the human rights organization Rettssikkerhet for alle!, the film Fjord is not merely entertainment, but also a instrument for advocacy, highlighting potential overreach, cultural bias in social work, and the power imbalance between the state and vulnerable immigrant or minority families.
