ImmunoTek Bio Centers, the world's largest independent operator of blood plasma donation centers located in the United States, is gearing up for a Plasma Extravaganza across its nationwide fleet of 46 centers. To commemorate International Plasma Awareness Week (IPAW) from October 2 - 6, 2023, both divisions of ImmunoTek Bio Centers--ImmunoTek Plasma and Freedom Plasma--are rolling out an exciting week of activity offering donors a chance to win prizes and receive extra financial incentives.
Donors who visit ImmunoTek Plasma and Freedom Plasma centers will receive customary financial compensation during the Plasma Extravaganza. Additionally, they can participate in games to win prizes and extra financial rewards throughout the IPAW. Each center will offer donors who make six plasma donations in October to participate in yet another chance to win substantial prizes, such as a pair of Beats by Dre Wireless Earphones or a JBL Flip 5 Speaker.
Plasma, the vital protein-rich component of blood, is in high demand worldwide. Donors in the United States supply over 60% of the world's blood plasma used for manufacturing essential medicines and therapeutics, including treatments for primary immunodeficiencies (PID), bleeding disorders (e.g., Hemophilia), autoimmune diseases, severe burns, transplant patients, and other diseases.
Jerome Parnell III, Founder and CEO of ImmunoTek Bio Centers, expressed gratitude, stating, "Our donors truly bestow the gift of life upon those who depend on plasma-derived therapeutics for their well-being." Parnell also serves on the Global Plasma Board of Directors for the Plasma Proteins Therapeutic Association, the organization behind International Plasma Awareness Week.
Many individuals with rare diseases and genetic disorders heavily rely on plasma-derived medicinal products to sustain their quality of life. Notably, treating just one patient for one year requires between 130 (PID) and 1200 (Hemophilia) plasma donations from healthy donors, underscoring the crucial importance of plasma donations.
Marvin Dyke, President of ImmunoTek Bio Centers, elaborated on the initiative's purpose: "International Plasma Awareness Week serves as an important reminder of the "why" behind what we do. The goal of this week is to raise awareness of the critical role of plasma-derived therapeutics in saving lives and to recognize our donors who supply this vital raw material. ImmunoTek's Plasma Extravaganza aims to bring some fun and excitement to the week and show our gratitude to our donors for their valued and life-saving donations."
The U.S. allows the compensation of donors for their time spent donating plasma. Donors must be healthy and will undergo medical screenings by on-site personnel before donating. Following successful screening, donors give plasma in a process similar to blood donation. Plasmapheresis is a safe and sterile method that separates plasma from the blood and returns the remaining red blood cells to the donors. Donors can give plasma twice weekly with a day between donations if they wish to maximize their gift to this life-saving cause.
