Not Another Sunday, an independent global coffee discovery platform, has launched a specialty coffee directory designed to help consumers find independent cafes and roasters based on quality rather than advertising reach or brand recognition. The platform currently tracks more than 142,000 cafes and roasters across 69 countries, positioning it among the largest independent coffee directories available online.
The company’s platform, available through its specialty coffee directory, focuses exclusively on independent specialty coffee businesses. Large chain brands are excluded from directory rankings and browse results, allowing smaller operators to compete on the strength of their craft rather than marketing budgets or franchise scale.
At the center of the platform is the Not Another Sunday Ranking Index (NRI), a proprietary scoring system that evaluates listings using several weighted factors. These include review quality, review volume, social engagement, profile completeness, web presence, photo coverage, and specialty coffee signals. According to the company, paid features never influence ranking positions.
The launch reflects growing consumer interest in independent coffee culture and transparency in online discovery platforms. While many mainstream review sites combine independent cafes with international chains, Not Another Sunday was built specifically to spotlight specialty-focused businesses that may otherwise struggle for visibility online.
“Most coffee guides reward whoever is loudest,” the company said in a statement. “We wanted to reward whoever is best, and give something back while we do it. If a small roaster doing exceptional work can finally outrank the busy chain next door, and a rescue dog gets fed because of it, that is the directory we want to run.”
In addition to its ranking system, the company has tied its business model to animal welfare initiatives. Every featured listing contributes toward animal rescue support, adding a charitable element to the platform’s growth.
The directory also separates chain coffee brands from independent businesses in its data structure and search results. According to the company, this approach is intended to make discovery easier for coffee drinkers specifically seeking local cafes and specialty roasters.
Not Another Sunday states that it does not run advertising, accept affiliate commissions on reservations or bookings, or share user data with third parties. Instead, optional paid plans are limited to profile enhancements such as additional photos, badges, and editorial features, without affecting ranking placement.
The company has also launched a curated section highlighting what it identifies as the best specialty coffee businesses across its database.
As specialty coffee continues to expand globally, the platform aims to serve both consumers searching for quality-focused coffee experiences and independent cafe owners seeking visibility in a market often dominated by larger brands.
