BALTIMORE, May 07, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, the American Urological Association (AUA) released the 2026 Management of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) Attributed to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Guideline, providing updated, evidence-based recommendations to support clinicians in the evaluation and management of men with urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement.

LUTS attributed to BPH affect millions of men in the United States and are among the most common reasons for urologic office visits, often worsening with age and significantly disrupting sleep, daily activities, and quality of life.

The updated Guideline includes 62 recommendations and reflects newly available clinical evidence, evolving medical therapies, and advances in minimally invasive and surgical treatment options. It emphasizes shared decision-making and individualized care, recognizing that urinary symptoms may result from multiple contributing factors beyond prostate enlargement alone.

“Lower urinary tract symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia can significantly impact quality of life, and managing them requires thoughtful, evidence‑based care,” said Ramy Goueli, MD, MHS, chair of the Guideline. “This updated Guideline provides clinicians with clear, practical recommendations to help ensure patients receive the most appropriate evaluation and treatment based on the best available evidence.”

The Guideline is intended for use in everyday clinical practice and serves as a practical reference for clinicians caring for patients with LUTS/BPH.

This Guideline includes information on:

  • Evaluation of LUTS/BPH
  • Medical management of LUTS/BPH
  • Procedural/surgical management of LUTS/BPH

The full Guideline is now available at AUANet.org/2026BPHGuideline
