Fabric Direct Is Supporting Staff Member Lauren on The Great British Sewing Bee

Fabric Direct is supporting staff member Lauren Tedstone on this year's Great British Sewing Bee. Lauren is a member of the team at the Hole in the Wall Curtains store in Walsall and is appearing in the 9th series (2023).

Fabric Direct is excited to be cheering on their very own staff member Lauren Tedstone on this year's series of The Great British Sewing Bee! Lauren is a much-loved member of the team at Fabric Direct's flagship store Hole in the Wall Curtains, located in Walsall, in the West Midlands.

Lauren is a self-taught sewer who originally trained as a barrister, before making a career change. Resolving to spend more time with her family, she put her knowledge of sewing and fabrics to good use by joining the team at Fabric Direct.

Lauren's very first sewing project was a memory quilt, stitched together with her children's baby clothes. Once she caught the sewing bug, she progressed to making clothes for herself and for her children to keep the whole family well-dressed. Her favourite fabric to work with is linen, and she loves using neutral colours for a classic style.

The sewers have already taken on 'Classics with a Twist' and a holiday theme in the first two episodes. So far, Lauren has tackled a twist top, backpack, transformation challenges with shirts and windbreakers, and a made-to-measure cut-out dress and swimsuit. The judges were particularly impressed with her cut-out dress in the first episode, which they praised for its fit, and her backpack in the second episode, which Esme Young deemed to be "chic"!

Upcoming episodes will see the sewers having fun with West African prints and designs and getting inspired by the concept of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The third episode will feature guest judge Banke Kuku, a Nigerian fashion designer who will be joining Patrick and Esme to assess the sewers' tunics, dresses, and robes inspired by Ghana, Nigeria, and other West African cultures.

The whole team at Fabric Direct is thrilled to be watching one of their own competing in this year's Sewing Bee. Everyone is excited to see how far Lauren will go and is cheering her on as she snips, sews, and sequins her way through the competition. She has already sewn some impressive makes and held up under the pressure of time constraints and new challenges, and everyone is on the edge of their seats, waiting to see what she'll do next.

The Great British Sewing Bee series 9 began on May 24th 2023 and is on BBC One every Wednesday at 9pm until July 26th. Episodes that have already aired are available to watch on catchup on BBC iPlayer, in addition to being repeated on TV.
