Shenzhen, China--(Newsfile Corp. - December 23, 2025) - The 2025 Wutong Mountain Climbing Competition kicked off at the Wutong Mountain Scenic Area on December 21. Nearly 1,000 hiking enthusiasts from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and across the country gathered in Luohu, Shenzhen. With spirited strides, they ascended to the summit of the Wutong Mountain, embodying the spirit of community fitness amid the harmony of the scenery.
The event was guided by the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources (Forestry Bureau) and the People's Government of Luohu District. It was jointly organized by the Wutong Mountain Scenic Area Management Office and the Luohu District Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports.
Now in its 16th edition, the competition has become a long-standing sports event in Luohu District. Organizers said it reflects the district's "half mountains, half city" ecological layout and has developed into a signature sports event within the Greater Wutong ecological integration area.
The race got underway at 8:30 a.m. as the starting gun sounded, sending participants off from the starting point. The course passed several scenic landmarks, including Phoenix Terrace and Butterfly Valley, and finished at Haohan Slope. The total distance was approximately 7.5 kilometers, with a cumulative elevation gain of 825 meters.
Along the route, organizers set up multiple supply stations and medical support points to ensure participant safety. The course tested both physical endurance and mental resilience, while also offering a continuous change of natural scenery. Many participants said after finishing the race that the climb was not only a physical challenge but also a meaningful way to welcome the new year through healthy activity.
The competition featured men's and women's individual open categories and was open to participants aged 16 to 65. Hikers of varying ages and experience levels took part.
After the competition, winners in each category were announced. The men's individual title was won by Shi AiAi, who finished in 31minutes and 31seconds. The women's individual title was claimed by Li SuLan with a time of 38 minutes and 25 seconds. Their performances drew applause from spectators at the finish area.
The event also promoted the integration of culture, sports, tourism and commerce. Organizers partnered with Luohu Yitian Holiday Plaza and businesses in areas surrounding Wutong Mountain to provide participants with exclusive shopping and dining offers. With proof of participation, athletes were able to access special discounts and promotional offers at selected restaurants, retail outlets and leisure venues within Luohu Yitian Holiday Plaza. The initiative aimed to extend the vitality generated by the race into post-event consumption, transforming event participation into sustained local economic activity and creating a combined "race, tourism and consumption" experience.
Organizers said they plan to continue developing the Wutong Mountain Climbing Competition brand by improving event organization, expanding integrated offerings and increasing its regional influence. The event is expected to further establish itself as a benchmark sports competition in the Greater Bay Area and contribute to Luohu District's efforts to build a sustainable, livable and vibrant urban environment.
