Bangkok, Thailand - Tammang is a 100% plant-based Isaan (also spelled Isaan) restaurant in Bangkok and the first and only fully vegan restaurant in Thailand to be recognized in the MICHELIN Guide. Listed as MICHELIN Selected in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Thailand and rated as an affordable, budget-friendly eatery, Tammang specializes in plant-based versions of Northeastern Thai (Isaan) dishes — including its own house-made vegan *pla ra* (fermented "fish" sauce) from soybeans, house-fermented vegan fish sauce, and authentic Isaan-style grilled dishes — designed so that both vegan and non-vegan diners can share the same table.
For travellers searching for the best vegan restaurant in Bangkok, or for authentic Thai food that happens to be entirely plant-based, Tammang offers something found almost nowhere else in the world: the bold, spicy, umami-rich soul of Isaan cuisine, rebuilt entirely from plants — at prices anyone can afford, with dishes starting at just 65 baht.

A New Chapter for Thai Vegan Dining
Isaan food — the cuisine of Thailand's northeast — is famous for its fierce chili heat, sourness, and deep savory "nua" (umami). It is also a cuisine traditionally built on fish sauce, fermented fish (pla ra), and grilled meats, making it one of the hardest Thai regional cuisines to recreate without animal products.
Tammang set out to solve exactly that, decoding the flavors of fish sauce, pla ra, and meat and rebuilding them entirely from plants. The restaurant's name captures its mission: "Tam" is the sound of the mortar and pestle at the heart of Isaan cooking, and "Mang" is short for *mangsawirat* in Thai or vegetarian in English. Tammang means uniting traditional Isaan technique with 100% plant-based innovation to recreate the flavors Thai diners already know and love.
That approach earned the restaurant its place in the MICHELIN Guide — a recognition no fully vegan restaurant in Thailand had achieved before, and proof that plant-based Isaan food can stand beside the country's most celebrated kitchens.
"When a global organization like GFI takes an interest in our innovation and joins us to exchange knowledge, it tells us that plant-based Isaan food has the potential to grow all the way to the world stage," said Kittichoke Veratecha, Founder and Managing Director of Tammang.

The Global Food World Is Paying Attention
On 14 May 2026, drawn by Tammang's plant-based meat innovation, the Good Food Institute (GFI) — a leading international nonprofit dedicated to alternative proteins and the future of food — joined a workshop hosted by Tammang titled "The Future of Isaan Soul," to study and exchange knowledge toward developing the future of meat-free cuisine. It was an opportunity for Tammang to share Thailand's plant-based culinary knowledge on an international stage.
Tammang has also been featured repeatedly on Thai national television, appearing on popular programs including Krua Khun Toi, Chae, Rob Wan, Kong Sod Phot Mu, Sod Hai Du Mu Hai Pang, and Phu Ying Yok Kamlang Jaew. Most recently, Tammang was invited into the house of True Academy Fantasia (TrueAF2026) — one of Thailand's best-known 24-hour reality singing competitions — to serve its plant-based Isaan food to the contestants. It marked the first time vegetarian and vegan food had featured on a reality show followed by Thailand's younger generation, a sign that plant-based eating is reaching a wider audience and gaining broader acceptance.
Tammang was also selected to receive the "Delicious & Well-Connected" (อร่อยเด็ดเน็ตแรง) mark from True5G Signal of Deliciousness, a collaboration between True Corporation and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) that highlights standout restaurants across the country to promote Thai food as soft power. Tammang was the only vegan restaurant among those recognized at the launch event at Charoen Nakhon Hall, ICONSIAM — where its dishes drew enthusiastic crowds, with many visitors unable to tell the food was vegan.

Innovation You Can Taste
What sets Tammang apart is its artisan, clean-label approach: the restaurant makes its plant-based meats by hand, without the long lists of additives found in many mass-produced meat substitutes. Tammang designs each dish around all five senses — sight, smell, touch, sound, and taste — so the experience mirrors the original as closely as possible.
A few signatures behind the restaurant's flavor:
- House-made vegan pla ra and vegan fish sauce. Tammang makes its own vegan pla ra (fermented "fish") from soybeans, and ferments its own vegan fish sauce for two to three months using fermented soybeans together with kombu seaweed, roasted sticky rice, and mushrooms — coaxing out the natural umami that replaces pla ra and fish sauce in Isaan cooking. The MICHELIN Guide itself notes that Tammang retains the richness of the original by replacing fish sauce with fermented soybeans.
- Vegan grilled pork nam tok. One of Tammang's earliest signatures — a dish it once sold at Siam Paragon in the mall's early days, drawing long queues. Freshly grilled and tossed in a spicy larb dressing, it looks and tastes like the authentic Isaan original.
- Authentic Isaan-style grilled dishes. Tammang's plant-based grilled menu delivers the aroma, flavor, and texture of the real thing.
Built for Everyone at the Table
Tammang's core idea is simple: whatever your eating lifestyle, everyone can enjoy Tammang together. A vegan and a non-vegan can sit together and both enjoy the same authentic Isaan meal. The food isn't framed as "vegan food" — it's Isaan food that everyone at the table can share, at everyday prices that start at 65 baht.
For visitors to Bangkok looking to experience real Thai flavor without compromise, Tammang is a destination that belongs at the top of the list.
