Investcorp Corsair Appoints Stephen K. Benjamin as Operating Partner for Local Communities

Mr. Benjamin formerly served as Assistant and Senior Advisor to the President and Director of Public Engagement for the White House

Responsibilities include local and government public sector engagement, and leading efforts in designing and assembling local investor consortia for public-private partnerships

Investcorp Corsair Infrastructure Partners (“Investcorp Corsair”), a leading global infrastructure investment firm specializing in the transportation and logistics sector, announced today that it has appointed Stephen K. Benjamin as Operating Partner for Local Communities.

As Operating Partner, Mr. Benjamin will be responsible for leading Investcorp Corsair’s efforts in designing and assembling local investor consortia for public-private partnership transactions in transportation and logistics infrastructure. He will work closely with Investcorp Corsair’s investment platforms, in particular Vantage Group, where he will serve on the Board of Directors.

Mr. Benjamin will focus on the development and implementation of formal partnership frameworks, while maintaining and strengthening Investcorp Corsair’s relationships with important public sector stakeholders, including regulators and officials across Local, State and Federal Government.

Mr. Benjamin served for two years as Assistant and Senior Advisor to the President in the Biden Administration and as Director of Public Engagement for the White House. He also served as City Mayor of Columbia, South Carolina for nearly 12 years. Mr. Benjamin has held several corporate and nonprofit board roles including as President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, President of the African American Mayors Association, Vice Chairman of the Global Parliament of Mayors, Executive Chairman of Municipal Bonds for America, Chairman of the FirstNet Authority, as a Member of the Federal Communications Commission’s Intergovernmental Advisory Committee and as Senior Fellow for the Center for Financial Markets at the Milken Institute.

Mr. Benjamin is Operating Partner for Local Communities at Investcorp Corsair. Mr. Benjamin most recently served as Assistant and Senior Advisor to the President in the Biden Administration and Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement until January 2025.

From April 2010 through December 2021, Mr. Benjamin was the Mayor of Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Benjamin has served as President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors from 2018 to 2019, as President of the African American Mayors Association, Vice Chairman of the Global Parliament of Mayors, Executive Chairman of Municipal Bonds for America, Chairman of the FirstNet Authority, a Member of the Federal Communications Commission’s Intergovernmental Advisory Committee, and as a member of several corporate and nonprofit boards. He also served as Senior Fellow for the Center for Financial Markets at the Milken Institute and the Spring 2022 Richard L. and Ronay A. Menschel Senior Leadership Fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

He has also previously served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Carolina’s Honors College teaching a course titled “Columbia, South Carolina: Building a Great City” and is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and Sigma Pi Phi fraternities.

Mr. Benjamin is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as President of Student Government and as President of the Student Bar Association.
