Firehouse Subs founders and volunteers arrive in Mississippi following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina.
Founded in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation from a desire to do more for those who protect and save lives. What began as an effort to provide essential tools to first responders has grown into a national resource for public safety, funding critical equipment and resources for firefighters, police officers, EMS and public safety organizations.
Over the past two decades, the Foundation has supported thousands of grants for vital equipment—ranging from lifesaving tools such as rescue boats and extrication equipment, to critical protective gear for first responders including bunker gear and ballistic vests. This equipment has directly saved hundreds of lives and strengthened communities nationwide.
“Reaching $100 million in grant awards is a testament to the generosity of our donors, the dedication of Firehouse Subs restaurants and the widespread appreciation for first responders who serve our communities,” said Robin Peters, Executive Director of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. “We want these local heroes to have the critical equipment needed in any emergency. Having the right tools in the right hands can make a lifesaving difference and we look forward to continuing to support more communities for the next 20 years and beyond.”
In honor of the 20th anniversary, the Foundation is supporting the efforts of National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) by distributing co-branded fire safety materials featuring Sparky the Fire Dog®. With these resources, the Foundation gives kids and families the opportunity to explore and learn about fire safety.
During October’s First Responders Month at Firehouse Subs, restaurants across the country will sell $20 anniversary medallions to continue to raise funds for the Foundation’s lifesaving mission.
