It’s not every day a product from your morning routine ends up orbiting the Moon. But that’s exactly what happened with the Pitbull Diamond PRO by Skull Shaver.

Following its return to Earth after the Artemis II Mission, the electric head shaver has earned a rare distinction. It was included in the astronauts’ grooming kit aboard the Orion spacecraft—where even simple routines like shaving become complex in microgravity.

In space, hair clippings don’t fall—they float, potentially turning a minor inconvenience into a functional risk. This makes containment essential.

The Pitbull Diamond PRO addresses this challenge with a built-in system that captures hair clippings during use, preventing them from dispersing. Originally designed for mess-free shaving at home or on the go, this feature may have proven especially valuable in microgravity.

Beyond containment, the product also met strict spacecraft engineering requirements. Devices used in space must comply with electromagnetic interference (EMI) standards to ensure they don’t disrupt onboard systems. The shaver’s brushless motor, optimized internal components, and unique case construction enabled it to operate within these constraints.

Notably, the device supplied for the mission was not modified or custom-built for space before being supplied.

“We built this product to make daily routines simpler and more reliable. Seeing it perform in an environment as demanding as space reinforces the engineering and design principles we’ve focused on from day one,” said Neil Kulshrestha.

Before launch, the Pitbull Diamond PRO underwent evaluation to confirm compatibility with spacecraft conditions. After meeting the necessary criteria, data was submitted to NASA, leading to its selection.

The Artemis II mission marks the first crewed lunar flyby in over 50 years, sending astronauts around the Moon and back. With its return, the Pitbull Diamond PRO joins a select group of consumer products that have traveled beyond Earth, and an even smaller group of those that traveled beyond the moon..

From a daily grooming tool to one used in lunar orbit, its journey highlights a simple idea: when products are built with precision and reliability, they can perform far beyond their intended environment.
