Wuhan-In early winter of 2024, a team of animal protection experts organized by the Hubei Provincial Forestry Bureau and Hubei Radio and Television Station conducted a research mission on the protection of the Yangtze finless porpoise in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Braving the cold winds, the experts patrolled the river aboard boats, carefully scanning the surface in hopes of spotting this endangered species.
During the hour-long patrol, the team caught a fleeting glimpse of a Yangtze finless porpoise leaping out of the water, but unfortunately, they were unable to capture it on film. Despite this, the experts remain optimistic about the species' recovery. Once on the brink of extinction, the Yangtze finless porpoise, an ancient species of the Yangtze River basin, has shown remarkable signs of progress in recent years thanks to concerted conservation efforts.
The mission was documented on video. On December 24, the video titled "Rebirth of the Yangtze Finless Porpoise: A Chinese Model for Global Endangered Species Conservation" was officially released, jointly produced by Hubei Radio and Television Station and the Hubei Provincial Forestry Bureau.

The Hubei Provincial Forestry Bureau has pledged to continue strengthening ecological protection along the Yangtze River and advancing efforts in species conservation and ecological restoration.
